Henderson Expedition

On World Reef Day 2019, Luke departed for an expedition with Pew Trusts to the Pitcairn archipelago in the South Pacific.

He was working alongside his dive & film partner, Jon Slayer to capture the work of the 12 scientists on board and raise awareness of the marine protected area and the need to protect the ocean.

The Henderson Island expedition had two key objectives - Study the plastic pollution on Henderson Island and raise awareness of the waste in the context of the global problem of ocean plastics; and study and raise awareness of the Henderson marine environment – promoting the Pitcairn Island Marine Reserve and the benefits of large, fully protected marine protected areas.

From pre-expedition planning & logistics to ensure the safety & security of the team on the ground and at sea, Luke & Jon’s role was to enable scientists, artists & conservationists to do their work effectively in the most remote locations.

Luke & Jon captured content, across all formats (terrestrial, underwater & drone), to document the expedition to its full potential. On return we built a robust & fully searchable media archive for use by all key stakeholders. Once our archive was built, we mapped out a content strategy and establish the deliverables in terms of media outputs - from micro content for social channels to full length documentaries and everything in between.

Since the launch of the Henderson Expedition Media Archive, it has been used as a resource by members of the expedition, press, the Pitcairn community, key stakeholders & the UK Government.

We’ve also produced a short film documenting the work of Mandy Barker, the award winning artist who joined the expedition.
