WOD for Schools 2023

It's impact report time of year for us and once again I find myself at odds with the idea that the most important thing to track is website clicks, YouTube views or social media engagement.

Because, when it comes down to it - they're numbers - numbers that don't tell stories. Numbers that are expected to grow year on year. Numbers that could never show you just how many people worked so hard to pull together something incredible.

What I want you to know is that this year, we were able to provide grants to 10 young people around the world to make films about their blue spaces. That we created 2 internships, one in the UK and one in Portugal that helped Fin & Ariana (our two awesome interns) realise that there are amazing, creative careers in the ocean space.

That because of our incredible funders & partners, 120 underprivileged kids got to spend World Ocean Day having amazing blue experiences.

And that we've now built a network of schools across 76 countries who have identified, connected with and actively protecting their local blue spaces.

Plus the 1729 mangroves we've planted in Mida Creek, Kenya with our friends at SeaTrees to help restore & regenerate a vital blue carbon ecosystem on behalf of all our amazing educators.

Tracking impact is important - but be careful which numbers you attach yourself to - make sure you count the ones that really matter.
